Captain’s Quarters

Captain's Quarters is one of Newport's most lovingly preserved colonial homes — known historically as the Stephen Ayrault (Freeborn) house, circa 1730. Available as both a vacation and extended stay rental, the property carries nearly three centuries of seafaring history within its walls.

The logo name is hand-drawn, and that choice is deliberate. The letterforms are shaped by the tradition of letters written at sea — notes composed by captains and sailors to the people waiting for them at home. Each curve and stroke carries the warmth and imperfection of a pen moving across paper by candlelight, somewhere on the water.

It felt right that a name should feel written, not set. Typed letters belong to the present. These belong to the tide.
